Cape Town – Two brothers, aged 17 and 21, were arrested on Sunday, September 7, for allegedly murdering their 39-year-old sibling after severely assaulting him.
According to South African Police Services (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo, the incident occurred on Saturday, September 6, in the Mambalwini locality of Xhorhana A/A.
Matyolo explained that the three siblings had returned home from a local tavern with their 15-year-old niece on September 6. Upon their return, they allegedly caught their older brother raping their niece, which led the two younger brothers to assault him.
“He fought back but was ultimately overpowered and was kept in a locked rondavel within the homestead for Saturday night with his hands tied with a rope.
“On Sunday at about 8 a.m., the elder brother was found dead in the rondavel he was kept in. Police were summoned and arrested the two male suspects who were charged with murder, and a rape case has been opened by the niece. Investigations into the incidents continue,” said Matyolo.
The two brothers are set to appear before the Mqanduli Magistrate’s Court on Monday, September
