Johannesburg – Gauteng police have arrested five suspects in connection with the hijacking, kidnapping and murder of two women who were found dead at a plot in Poortjie near Orange Farms.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni welcomed the arrests, saying police had made progress through intelligence-driven investigations.
“The arrest of these suspects is a result of thorough detective work and intelligence-led operations,” Mthombeni said.
The two women had been reported missing before their bodies were discovered on 8 January. Police said investigators worked around the clock to trace those responsible.
“Through intelligence information, the team of investigators managed to trace and arrest five suspects and recover an unlicensed firearm,” police said.

Four of the suspects were arrested in Evaton, while the fifth was apprehended in Germiston on 13 January. During the investigation, officers were also led to Brits, where the victims’ vehicle was found abandoned at a car wash. Police said the vehicle “was fitted with false number plates but still had the correct licence disc”.
An unlicensed firearm seized during the arrests will undergo further testing. “The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine whether it was used in the commission of the crime,” police confirmed.
All five suspects are expected to appear before the Vereeniging Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 15 January, facing charges related to hijacking, kidnapping and murder.
