Cape Town – A tragic shooting in Bonteheuwel, Western Cape, claimed the life of a three-month-old baby on 22 August 2025.
The infant was shot in his mother’s arms by two unidentified armed men at their home on Yellowood Street.
“At around 7.45 am, two unidentified armed men entered the premises and proceeded to one of living rooms. One of the men fired a gunshot which left the three-month-old baby with serious injuries,” police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said.
“The child was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The unidentified suspects fled the scene and they are yet to be arrested. The motive for this attack is believed to be gang-related. The victim WAS declared deceased by the medical personnel.”
Police believe the attack was gang-related and are investigating the case as murder and attempted murder.
Bishop Lavis detectives are pursuing leads, and the public is urged to provide information anonymously via Crime Stop or the MySAPS app.
