Polokwane – Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for a woman who allegedly gave birth to a baby girl and later abandoned her under a thorn tree in Makotopong, Kgatla Section, near a brickyard on Sunday morning.

The woman immediately alerted community members, police and emergency medical services.
“Upon their arrival at the scene, police found the baby still alive and crying. She had no visible injuries. The child was taken to a local clinic for medical attention and is reported to be in a stable condition,” Ledwaba added.
Police have since opened an investigation and are appealing to members of the public to assist in tracing the mother.
“Anyone with information that can help locate the mother of the baby is urged to contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Lucy Ngobeni, of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit at 082 565 6764 or 082 729 0399,” said Ledwaba.
“Alternatively, information can be shared via the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or the My SAPS App.”
Police investigations are continuing.
