Bloemfontein – In a major crackdown on the illegal trade of counterfeit goods, members of the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit arrested two suspects and confiscated a large quantity of fake liquor on Saturday, 14 March 2026.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), operators acted on intelligence regarding a Toyota Hilux traveling from Queenstown toward Bloemfontein along the N6.
“At approximately 15:00, operators acted on intelligence regarding a Toyota Hilux traveling from Queenstown toward Bloemfontein via the N6. The vehicle was suspected of transporting illegal contraband,” SAPS said in a statement.
Police positioned themselves along the route, spotted the vehicle, and successfully stopped it. A search of the vehicle revealed several boxes of counterfeit liquor with an estimated street value of R105 000.

“Upon conducting a thorough search, members discovered several boxes of counterfeit liquor with an estimated street value of R105 000.00. The occupants, a 24-year-old male and a 22-year-old female, were unable to provide valid invoices or account for the origin of the merchandise,” the statement said.
Both suspects were immediately arrested and are now facing charges of possession of counterfeit goods. SAPS confirmed they are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.
