Pretoria – A fourth suspect has been arrested in connection with the hijacking and murder of e-hailing driver Isaac Satlat, police confirmed.
The suspect handed himself over on Monday and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, facing charges of carjacking and murder alongside the three previously arrested accused.
“Like the other three suspects, he is facing charges of carjacking and murder,” police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo
Satlat, an engineering student, was killed on 11 February after picking up two suspects in his Suzuki Ertiga. The attack, captured on the vehicle’s dashcam and widely shared on social media, sparked national outrage and led to swift arrests.
The first suspect, 24-year-old Dikeledi Tears Mphela, was arrested shortly after the footage went viral. Two more suspects, Goit Sione Machidi (25) and McLaren Mushwana (30), were arrested over the weekend. They face charges of premeditated murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
During a court appearance on Monday, the three accused abandoned their bail application and remain in custody.
The case was postponed to 23 February for further investigation. Hundreds of protesters gathered outside court in support of Satlat’s family, who have been left devastated by the killing.
Satlat’s hijacked vehicle and his body were found in Atteridgeville on the same day of the attack.
