Meyerton – A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his wife after her body was discovered in a stream near Vereeniging, Gauteng.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the suspect was arrested in Meyerton on 5 March 2026 following an investigation into the woman’s disappearance.
Police said the victim had been reported missing on 3 March after allegations emerged that her husband had stabbed her and locked her inside their home. When authorities arrived at the residence, both the husband and wife were missing, prompting a search operation.
During the investigation, the suspect was located in Vereeniging with the assistance of members of the Community Police Forum.

“Upon questioning, he led the police to a stream where the victim’s body was found placed inside a recycling bag. The husband was arrested and charged with murder,” SAPS said in a statement.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Vereeniging Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 9 March 2026.
SAPS management in Gauteng thanked community members for assisting in locating the suspect and reiterated the need for communities to work together to combat gender-based violence.
“The Management of South African Police Service in Gauteng would like to thank the community for their assistance in apprehending the suspect. Gender Based Violence and Femicide affects everyone and it needs all of us to stand together denounce it in our communities,” the police said.
