Johannesburg – Fifteen suspects have been arrested across Gauteng following a series of targeted operations conducted by the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) this week.
The arrests, which began on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, were made for various offences, including drug possession, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, firearm pointing, possession of a stolen vehicle, attempted murder, and possession of counterfeit cigarettes.
According to SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Roxanne Gibb, the suspects were apprehended during several coordinated raids in different policing precincts.
“These arrests emanate from numerous targeted operations executed in the various policing precincts,” said Gibb.
She added that the operations led to the recovery of a significant cache of illegal items.
“During these operations, the AGU seized illegal substances, including mandrax tablets, crystal meth, firearms, ammunition, Mylan tablets, cartridges, a stolen vehicle, holsters, and illicit cigarettes,” Gibb confirmed.

The Anti-Gang Unit worked in collaboration with other specialised divisions, including Crime Intelligence, the Tactical Response Team (TRT), and Public Order Policing Springs.
“The AGU, in collaboration with specialised units such as the SAPS Crime Intelligence, Tactical Response Team (TRT), and Public Order Policing Springs, resulted in the arrests of some of these individuals,” Gibb said.
Among the seized items were two 9mm pistols, 14 rounds of live ammunition, two magazines, 17 ziplock bags containing crystal meth, a stolen vehicle linked to a Norkem Park SAPS case, counterfeit cigarettes, Mylan and mandrax tablets, two cartridges, and dagga.
One of the suspects, a 24-year-old man, was arrested in Riverlea for attempted murder. In a separate case, a 43-year-old suspect was taken into custody for pointing a firearm after being positively identified by the complainant.
“All arrested suspects have since appeared before their respective courts,” said Gibb.
Police have urged members of the public to remain alert and report criminal activity.
“We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any criminal or suspicious activities to SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Alternatively, residents can download the MySAPS App on their smart devices to report incidents anonymously,” Gibb concluded.
