Johannesburg – A 15-month-old baby was among five people shot during a violent incident in Westbury on Thursday, according to South African Police Service.
Police said the shooting happened on 5 March at the corner of Lark Spur Court and Jacaranda Court, where a group of people were reportedly attacked by unknown suspects.
In a statement posted on social media, SAPS said: “A 15-month-old baby is amongst 5 victims who were injured during a shootout in Westbury, on Thursday, 05/03.”
Authorities added that the victims were gathered at the location when the attack occurred.

“It is reported that the victims were at the corner of Lark Spur Court and Jacaranda Court when attacked by an unknown number of suspects,” police said.
All five victims sustained gunshot wounds during the incident. One of them, an adult woman, later died.
“All five victims sustained gunshot wounds and one of them, an adult female, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital,” the police statement said.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
Police confirmed that a case of murder and four counts of attempted murder have been opened as investigations continue.
