Johannesburg – The South African Communist Party (SACP) says it does not want to break from the tripartite alliance with the ANC and COSATU but will not tolerate ANC arrogance.
Speaking during a Sunday media briefing in Johannesburg, SACP General Secretary Solly Mapaila affirmed that the party remains dedicated to the alliance despite recent tensions.
“The SACP is not preoccupied with contesting the ANC which remains an ally as long as we share strategic objectives both in theory and practice.

“Exercising our rights, the SACP will contest the 2026 local government elections to defend, advance and deepen the national democratic revolution…,” said Mapaila.
The alliance is under strain after the SACP decided to contest elections independently, citing the ANC’s refusal to allow more consensus-based decision-making.
Mapaila reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the alliance and its goals, including addressing economic inequality, but stressed that engagement must respect collective decision-making and cannot be conditional on withdrawing from elections.
