Cape Town – Media personality Lerato Kganyago has shared a terrifying personal ordeal after allegedly being followed by a group she describes as “thugs”, some of whom appeared to have ties to the police.
In a series of Instagram stories, the radio and TV star detailed how she confronted the suspects at a restaurant, capturing the entire encounter.
Kganyago said she had long suspected she was being watched but decided to act after tipping from restaurant staff.
“I’m very grateful that there are people from the restaurant and security, that alerted me that there are people who are following me, and were asking about my whereabouts, where I was sitting and what time I had arrived…” she explained
With clear intention, she described setting a trap: “As much as I had bravely set this ‘trap’, I … took a picture of each and everyone of them. From when they walked in the door, where they sat, and when they all started moving when I made my way out!”. She then confronted the group outside, warning others against bravado: “I bravely got out of the car by myself, which I don’t advise…”
In a chilling twist, Lerato revealed that one of the men stood next to a uniformed police officer who remained silent throughout the confrontation. “One of the guys stood next to a police officer, who did not say anything during the confrontation.
He only walked away when he realised that I had been recording them. I did this because I knew I had ‘invisible’ security around me,” she recounted
Despite the intensity of the situation, Lerato emphasised resilience over fear: “My fear? My fear is worn out. I do not fear anymore,” she said, adding, “I will always look and sound happy because that’s what keeps me alive in spirit”
She shared evidence—including photographs—and has circulated the images to family and close contacts as part of her safety measures. Lerato’s decision to go public reflects her commitment to raising awareness: “They are thugs,” she stated simply.
