Cape Town – Journalist and broadcaster Aldrin Sampear has officially exited Newzroom Afrika, marking the end of his tenure as anchor of the AM Report on Channel 405.
His final broadcast aired on Monday, where he confirmed his departure and announced plans to enter public service.
Sampear’s departure comes months after a public road rage incident in April involving another motorist. At the time, Newzroom Afrika placed him on leave pending the outcome of an internal review. He briefly returned on air in May, where he addressed the incident directly.
“On 17 April, I was involved in a traffic incident… Having had time to reflect, I want to take full responsibility for my actions,” he said at the time.
“I believe I should have been more composed… For that, I want to express my regret and sincere apologies to our viewers,” IOL quoted him as saying.
I’m Aldrin Sampear and I am BRILLIANT at what I do.
When I join companies, I fix what I can and always leave those organizations elevated. My departure from Newzroom Afrika is no different. While this moment is about me, I want to send a warm hug to my cheerleaders who have… pic.twitter.com/5gXX0cLHVK

Confirming his new career path, Sampear revealed that he had joined the Department of Tourism.
“My skill has been sought for different challenges,” he said.
“When I join companies, I fix what I can and always leave those organisations elevated. I’m Aldrin Sampear and I am brilliant at what I do.”
Reflecting on his journey, he credited public broadcasting as a key part of his development. “This beautiful nation has done so much for me. I’m indebted. Journalism was the vehicle. Kasie FM gave me the platform to learn, grow and serve.”
Before joining Newzroom Afrika, he held roles at SABC and Power FM, earning recognition for his political interviews and strong editorial voice.
