Cape Town – Annie Mthembu has confirmed that she has been separated from her husband, Kgolo “Da Guru” Mthembu, for three years, saying she is still working on forgiving him.
Speaking on the Engineer Your Life with Lungelo KM podcast, the former Real Housewives of Durban cast member said, “I really have to fight in my heart to forgive him, like fight with myself,” adding that December 2025 will mark three years since the split.
The couple met in 2016 when Annie worked as Kgolo’s personal assistant. They married in 2021 in a large “Gatsby-style” wedding in Franschhoek. Annie said the marriage broke down due to infidelity and alleged struggles with alcohol addiction.
“No one likes to be cheated on; it makes you question yourself a lot. Are you enough? Is there something wrong with me? Why can I not be enough for you?” she said.
Annie added that she felt “highly embarrassed” about the situation and wanted to shield her family from public scrutiny. She also accused some Real Housewives cast members of spreading false rumours about her marriage, finances and mental health.
Kgolo addressed the matter during an appearance on Mo and Phindi’s Podcast, where he said that reality television had put strain on their relationship. “We gave people power to control our relationship. But I cannot blame the show,” he said, reported News24.
In a public comment to Annie, he wrote: “No matter the personal struggles I was facing, there’s never an excuse for dishonouring God’s blessings. I deeply regret the pain I’ve caused you… From the bottom of my heart, I wish you true love, healing and peace. Farewell, pretty wings.”
Annie has since moved to Cape Town with her children and is co-parenting with Kgolo. She left Real Housewives after experiencing a mental breakdown, citing a need to protect her family and personal wellbeing.
