Cape Town – Mlindo The Vocalist is back in the spotlight, this time with heartfelt praise and deep appreciation for his long-time mentor, DJ Maphorisa, as he gears up to release his third studio album, Uhambo – The Journey, along with a behind-the-scenes documentary titled Emakhaya.
In a recent interview with Daily Sun, the singer — born Lindokuhle Mgedezi — reflected on his personal and musical growth, crediting Maphorisa for playing a pivotal role in his journey since his 2018 breakthrough.
“DJ Maphorisa was there from the beginning,” Mlindo said. “Our first big hit, ‘AmaBlesser,’ came from that collaboration.”
He added that their latest single, Inkomo Zika Baba, featuring Maphorisa and Cowboii, is both a tribute to their shared history and a step forward into a new chapter.

Emakhaya, a documentary filmed five years ago, captures Mlindo’s journey from a gospel-singing church boy in Port Shepstone to an emerging star.
The film reintroduces fans to Lindokuhle’s roots—his mother, siblings, and humble beginnings—laying bare the emotional foundation of his artistry and setting the stage for Uhambo’s narrative arc. “Fans will get to meet the real Lindokuhle.
They’ll witness how Mlindo The Vocalist came to be,” he shared.
Now, in June 2025, Mlindo’s outlook is firmly positive. Rather than dwell on past conflicts, he has chosen to frame his story around growth and resilience.
His new single, Inkomo Zika Baba, revisits the amapiano sound that first defined his partnership with DJ Maphorisa—signalling both a return to his roots and an evolution of his musical identity.
