Durban – Ithuba has confirmed that a KwaZulu-Natal father of three and grandfather of 10 won the R12.6 million Lotto Plus 2 jackpot from the draw on 10 January.
The winner purchased a R20 quick-pick ticket at a local supermarket and kept it in his wardrobe until checking it during a routine visit to the store, where he discovered he had won.
He said he was overwhelmed and grateful, adding that his main priority is securing a better future for his grandchildren, including funding their education.
“I didn’t know I had won so much money.
“When I found out, I was very happy and could not believe it,” he said, according to IOL.
He also plans to renovate his home and support his family’s needs.
Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza congratulated the winner, highlighting the positive impact of the National Lottery.
Winnings are tax-free, and winners of more than R50,000 receive free financial and trauma counselling, The Citizen reported.
