Johannesburg – Starting 1 July 2025, Hong Kong’s home carrier Cathay Pacific will be operating daily return flights — up from the current five flights per week — between Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport and Hong Kong.
These flights will be operated by the airline’s Airbus A350-900 aircraft, one of the most advanced aircraft in its fleet, equipped with flatbeds in Business class, as well as Premium Economy and Economy cabins.
Customers wishing to continue their journey to onward destinations can also take this opportunity to connect to flights to other cities via Cathay Pacific’s home hub, Hong Kong.
These include destinations in the Chinese Mainland, including the wider Greater Bay Area, as well as other popular Asian destinations in Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
Cathay Regional General Manager for South Asia, Middle East, and Africa Rakesh Raicar said: “The increase in flights between Johannesburg and Hong Kong reflects our commitment to meeting the growing demand for travel between South Africa and Asia.
With the expanded schedule, we are offering our customers greater flexibility and convenience, whether they are travelling for business or leisure.
“Hong Kong remains a vibrant hub for global connectivity, providing seamless onward connections to key destinations across the world. We look forward to welcoming more customers on board and delivering the exceptional service that Cathay Pacific is known for.”
The additional frequency also means additional belly capacity for cargo services from Johannesburg.
This increased capacity allows Cathay Cargo to offer more priority shipment solutions for the South African market, meeting the growing demand for efficient and reliable cargo services.
This particularly benefits time-sensitive shipments such as perishables, mail, and courier services, ensuring regular and consistent deliveries.
The upcoming capacity increase comes after Cathay Pacific’s relaunch of flights between Johannesburg and Hong Kong in August 2023.
Cathay has committed over HK$100 billion in investments into its fleet, cabin products, lounges and digital innovations.
To expand its global network, the Group is focused on reaching 100 passenger destinations worldwide within the first half of the year.
To sweeten the deal, the airline is offering exclusive fares to selected destinations in Asia starting from ZAR 11,300*.
Meanwhile, Cathay Members can enjoy an exclusive ZAR 2,000 additional discount by using the promo code “GET2000” when booking directly via the Cathay Pacific website.
This offer is valid from Johannesburg to top destinations like Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Japan.
Bookings must be made by 22 June 2025, for travel until 31 March 2026. To make a booking, click here.
Cathay Pacific is committed to investing in both its network and customer experience. Customers can enjoy comfort, award-winning inflight entertainment, and menus developed together with some of Hong Kong’s finest restaurants, all complemented by Cathay Pacific’s signature service.
