Mpumalanga – A 59-year-old suspect is set to appear before Standerton Magistrates Court on 14 April 2026, following allegations of large-scale tax evasion, the South African Police Service confirmed.
The suspect was formally served with a court summons on Thursday, 19 March 2026, after a preliminary investigation by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) uncovered that he allegedly failed to submit outstanding personal income tax between 2008 and 2023.
“This investigation revealed significant non-compliance with tax obligations, resulting in SARS being prejudiced to the amount of R307 million,” SARS said in a statement.
The suspect now faces legal proceedings for his alleged failure to comply with tax laws, with the case scheduled to be heard in the Standerton Magistrates Court next month.
Authorities have reiterated the importance of tax compliance, warning that large-scale evasion will be met with criminal action.
“SARS is committed to investigating and prosecuting cases where individuals deliberately avoid their tax responsibilities,” the statement added.
Investigations remain ongoing, and further updates are expected as the court process unfolds.
