Johannesburg – Diesel and petrol prices in South Africa are set to drop from Wednesday, September 3.
Diesel could fall by 55 – 56 cents per litre, while petrol may decrease by 4–12 cents per litre.
This would see 95 Unleaded petrol costing around R20.76 at the coast and R21.55 in Gauteng, and 50ppm diesel at R18.72 (coast) and R19.48 (Gauteng).
The decreases are mainly due to lower international fuel prices, with the rand offering minor relief.
Diesel’s drop is expected to ease transport costs, which could positively impact inflation, currently at 3.5% (up from 3.0% in June).
Diesel prices will return to levels seen earlier this year, and petrol has remained fairly stable in 2025.
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy will announce the official September prices soon.
