Cape Town – The Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration has announced the precautionary suspension of Government Pensions Administration Agency (GPAA) Chief Executive Officer Kedibone Madiehe, following allegations of procurement irregularities amounting to approximately R1.2 billion.
According to a statement, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana confirmed the suspension, noting that a forensic investigation is underway to ensure the process is carried out without prejudicing GPAA employees.
In the interim, Job Stadi Mngomezulu, Deputy Director-General for Corporate Services at National Treasury, has been appointed as Acting Chief Executive Officer.
The decision has been met with strong support from the GPAA, which has reaffirmed its commitment to fully cooperating with the ongoing investigations.

“Noting the decision, the committee expressed support for the actions and for the National Treasury’s stated commitment to restore stability at the agency, strengthen governance and ensure accountability in managing the pension funds of more than 1.7 million public servants and pensioners,” said the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration, Jan de Villiers.
He welcomed the investigations and emphasised the importance of accountability among GPAA staff.
“This sends a clear message that maladministration and corruption in state entities will not be tolerated.
“We expect this investigation to lead not only to corrective action but also to set an example of consequence management in practice,” said de Villiers.
According to the South African Government, Minister Godongwana expressed confidence in Mngomezulu’s ability to lead the organisation effectively during this transitional period.
“Under Mr Mngomezulu’s leadership, GPAA will continue to deliver on its mandate while we work to resolve these matters expeditiously” said Godongwana.
The preliminary forensic investigations will focus on the following procurement contracts:
- GPAA Head Office Lease
- African Mobility Bus Lease
- Jicho Consulting Contracts
- LCS Biometric System Lease
Godongwana emphasised the need for urgency, stressing that the process must follow proper legal channels while respecting the rights of all parties involved.
He expressed confidence that the investigation could be concluded within 60 days.
“We deeply appreciate the importance of maintaining the trust and confidence of pension holders and broader society in GPAA’s operations,” said Minister Godongwana.
“The National Treasury remains committed to transparent governance and will provide updates as appropriate while respecting the integrity of the ongoing processes.”
