Cape Town – A PowerBall player has won a massive R178.9 million in Tuesday night’s draw, making it the second-highest jackpot ever recorded in Ithuba’s history.
The winning ticket matched all five numbers and the PowerBall from an estimated R177 million jackpot.
“We have a PowerBall jackpot winner of R178 955 240! after matching five numbers and the PowerBall,” announced Ithuba.
Ithuba confirmed the win, with the largest PowerBall prize in South Africa remaining the R232 million jackpot won by a Cape Town player in 2019.

The latest win surpasses previous major payouts, including a R167 million jackpot won in KwaZulu-Natal in 2022.
The draw follows another recent big win, with a player scooping R33.7 million in the PowerBall Plus draw on Friday after purchasing a Quick Pick ticket online.
Ithuba reminded players how PowerBall works and said winners of large amounts are referred to the lottery operator for payout, with free financial and trauma counselling provided to winners of more than R50 000.
