Cape Town – South African motorists could see fuel price relief in September, with current projections showing decreases across petrol, diesel, and illuminating paraffin.
The rand’s recent strengthening against the US dollar and lower Brent crude oil prices are driving the positive outlook, though final prices will only be confirmed by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy at month-end.
Projected price cuts (as of 19 August, Central Energy Fund):
-
Petrol 93: ↓16c
-
Petrol 95: ↓9c
-
Diesel 0.05%: ↓48c
-
Diesel 0.005%: ↓50c
-
Illuminating paraffin: ↓36c
If trends hold, diesel drivers stand to benefit most. Final adjustments will take effect from midnight on Tuesday, 2 September 2025.
Fuel prices in South Africa are largely influenced by two factors: international oil prices and the rand/dollar exchange rate.
