Cape Town – South African motorists will enjoy lower fuel prices starting midnight on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, as announced by the Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
Key decreases per litre:
-
Petrol 93 and 95: 65 cents
-
Diesel 0.05%: 50 cents
-
Diesel 0.005%: 57 cents
-
Illuminating paraffin: 70 cents
These reductions follow a volatile January, where global oil prices rose from under $60 to over $70 per barrel due to US-Iran tensions in the Middle East. A stronger rand offset much of the pressure.
New inland prices (from January):
| Fuel | January | February |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol 93 | R20.64 | R19.99 |
| Petrol 95 | R20.75 | R20.10 |
| Diesel 0.05% | R18.41 | R17.91 |
| Diesel 0.005% | R18.52 | R17.95 |
| Illuminating Paraffin | R12.63 | R11.93 |
Coastal prices follow a similar pattern (e.g., Petrol 93 drops to R19.20). Prices are influenced by international oil (currently $66.14/barrel) and the rand/dollar rate (R16.07/$).
