Cape Town – Eskom has dismissed circulating social media reports claiming it plans to implement 14-hour load shedding in Gauteng and the Northern Cape, labelling them as fake news.
The power utility confirmed that no such outages are planned and emphasised that load shedding has been suspended since 15 May 2025.
“Eskom categorically rejects the false claims circulating online about a 14-hour outage or imminent loadshedding. These reports are completely untrue.
“The power system is stable, and loadshedding has remained suspended since 22:00 on 15 May 2025. There are no planned outages of this scale,” the power utility said.

Eskom urged the public to rely only on official updates to avoid misinformation.
It said that the system remains stable, with emergency reserves in place to manage winter peak demand.
“Misinformation causes unnecessary alarm. Stay informed— trust only official Eskom updates on our official platforms. -No 14-hour outage planned -Loadshedding remains suspended -The grid remains stable,” said Eskom.
According to Eskom’s winter outlook (until 31 August 2025), load shedding will not be necessary if unplanned outages remain below 13,000MW.
