Cape town reigns supreme — best city in the world, again!

Cape Town – Cape Town has been voted the Best City in the World by over 20,000 UK travellers in the 2025 Telegraph Travel Awards, beating cities like Seville and Sydney.

This marks the seventh time it’s received the title and the second time in 2025, following Time Out’s similar recognition in January.

Praised for its people, energy, scenery, and culture, Cape Town continues to shine as a top global destination, proudly mixing creativity, nature, and heartfelt local spirit.

According to Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, James Vos, the win reflects the efforts of local entrepreneurs, destination marketing teams, and Cape Town Tourism.

“This kind of recognition doesn’t just happen. It’s the result of serious graft, smart thinking, and a whole lot of local passion. From our neighbourhood entrepreneurs to the people welcoming visitors with a smile, Cape Town’s tourism scene is powered by its people,” Cape Town Tourism quoted Vos, as saying.

Behind the scenes, our focused destination marketing and management efforts, led in partnership with Cape Town Tourism, ensure that our city’s unique experiences are promoted to the world in a way that drives demand and delivers benefits for locals. Being named the best city in the world by The Telegraph readers is proof that our strategy is working, and we’re going to keep raising the bar, because the world is watching.”

The Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry also celebrated the achievement, noting that while it’s easy to become blasé about Cape Town’s frequent accolades, each one strengthens the city’s global brand, attracts more visitors, and helps create jobs. The Chamber commended all tourism stakeholders for their role in this ongoing success story.
