Cape Town – South African motorists have experienced three consecutive fuel price cuts in 2025, with another decrease likely in June if current market conditions continue.
Mid-May data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) suggests potential drops of 30 cents per litre for both 93 and 95 unleaded petrol, and up to 61 cents per litre for diesel.
Illuminating paraffin may also fall by 63 cents per litre.
These changes are influenced by the rand/dollar exchange rate and global oil prices.
Oil prices recently stabilised around $64–$66 per barrel, and the rand was trading at R18.04 to the dollar as of 15 May. However, final prices may vary depending on late-month shifts and additional factors like levies or margins.
The official fuel price announcement is expected on Wednesday, 4 June.
