Cape Town – Renowned podcaster and media personality MacGyver “MacG” Mukwevho made an unexpected appearance in Mzansi Magic’s historical drama Shaka iLembe.
He portrayed a member of the Qwabe tribe aligned with King Phakathwayo during a pivotal stick fight against Shaka Zulu, a role that, while brief, left a strong impression on viewers.
Reflecting on his involvement, MacG told The Citizen, “It was an honour to be part of such a rich story from our history, even though I’m not Zulu,” acknowledging the cultural significance of the series despite his Venda heritage.
He described the cameo as a “once-off stint that I couldn’t refuse,” highlighting how the opportunity arose after he had hosted Shaka iLembe creator Angus Gibson on his Podcast and Chill with MacG platform in 2023.

Filming proved physically demanding, MacG stated, as he recounted shooting under the scorching sun while wearing traditional attire.
“We shot the whole day. The sun was crazy. We were standing in the sun the whole day,” he said, as reported by TimesLIVE.
Despite the challenges, he added that the experience gave him a deeper appreciation for acting: “The energy was different. It’s a different atmosphere. You feel like you’re back in those days. I felt Zulu by the end of the day.”
Fans of Shaka iLembe and Podcast and Chill with MacG have taken to social media to celebrate the crossover, with many expressing their appreciation for MacG’s portrayal and the unexpected synergy between the two worlds.
