Tebogo takes bronze to lift Africa’s medal tally

Despite US sprinter Noah Lyles’ comprehensive victory, Tebogo showed that he’s a superstar in the making and at only 20 years of age, the future looks bright for the African athlete.

Lyles, the 100m gold medallist, posted a time of 19.52 followed by compatriot Erriyon Knighton with a 19.75 finish, while Tebogo’s run of 19.81 secured the bronze medal.

“It means a lot. It really shows we’re on the right track going forward for the Olympics and the other upcoming competitions.” said the composed youngster.

“The 200m bronze was a bonus for us as it was just to see how my body was going to respond after six races at the world stage.”

“Every time I got into my training ground, I would tell myself if Wayde van Niekerk did this as a neighbour to our country, so can I. And here I am.”
