Four hundred and fifty million. That’s the number of tweets recorded in 2015 by Egypt – the most active African nation on Twitter.
An annual report by London-based company Portland Communications – which analyses Twitter trends based on hashtags and online habits – shows that 10% of the total tweets posted by Africans were about politics. That’s more than the US and the UK, where political conversations only made 1% to 2% of hashtags last year, according to an AFKInsider report.
Nigeria was the second most active African nation on twitter with 350 million tweets, followed by South Africa (325 million), Kenya (76 million) and Ghana (65 million).
