Cape Town – South Africans heading to the polls on Wednesday, 4 November, have an added incentive to exercise their democratic right, with several popular restaurants and businesses offering free treats and special discounts to voters who can prove they have cast their ballots.
Among the participating brands are Wimpy, Spur, Krispy Kreme, Vovo Telo, Hennies and Sorbet, which are using Election Day promotions to reward citizens for participating in the 2026 Local Government Elections.

Other businesses have also joined the initiative. Hennies is offering voters a complimentary drink, while Sorbet is giving customers a 10% discount on manicures on 4 and 5 November.
In a playful campaign message quoted by The South African, Sorbet said: “Pay for 9 fingers, your voting thumb is free.”
TimesLIVE reported that additional establishments, including Tiger’s Milk, are also rewarding voters, with the restaurant chain offering a complimentary 300ml Castle Lite to customers who show their marked thumbs.
Free fries
Other promotions include free fries at Zuney Wagyu and complimentary coffee at Ramoon Café.
According to The Citizen, smaller businesses are also participating, with offers ranging from free coffee to discounted meals and other treats.
The promotions come as South Africans vote in local government elections that will determine the leadership of municipalities and the delivery of essential services in their communities.
However, voters are advised to check individual outlets for applicable terms and conditions, as some offers are limited to specific branches, require purchases or are available only while stocks last.
