The first phase of new logistics hub is nearing completion in Gqeberha.
The 150 000 m² Newlyn Logistics Park, which is only 5 km away from the N2, will be able to accommodate warehousing, distribution, freight, courier and light-manufacturing operations, according to Moneyweb.
Phase 1A – including a 10 000 m² warehouse, with a 10 000 m² yard and up to 300 m² of office and ancillary space – is scheduled for completion in December. Phase 1B will add another warehouse and yard of similar proportions, while further phases are planned according to tenant demand.
Launched in 1996, Newlyn Logistics has a national portfolio of 32 assets and more than 1.3 million m2 of gross lettable area, reports Logistics News.
Viresh Persad, chief development officer at Newlyn Group, says the company has over the years refined its design process ‘based on what works operationally and by removing potential challenges’ that tend to arise for tenants.
‘The result is that many features that might otherwise need to be adapted or added later are now considered upfront and incorporated into our standard offering,’ he says.
The new warehouse floors feature power-floated concrete floors that can withstand uniform loads of up to 12 tons.
At a height of 10.5m, the warehouse accommodates conventional materials-handling equipment.
South Africa’s logistics market was valued by Imarc at US$26.4 billion in 2025 and was projected to reach US$37.4 billion by 2034 growing at a compound aggregate growth rate of almost 4%.
