Cape Town – South Africa is bracing for contrasting weather conditions on Thursday, with severe thunderstorms expected in parts of Limpopo as heatwave conditions persist in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of potentially hazardous conditions, including extreme heat, heavy downpours and thunderstorms, which could pose risks to residents, property and infrastructure.
A Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms over south-western Limpopo. The storms could bring heavy rainfall, damaging winds, hail and lightning, increasing the risk of localised flooding and damage to property and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in northern KwaZulu-Natal until Friday. In the Eastern Cape, the Chris Hani, OR Tambo and Alfred Nzo district municipalities are forecast to experience persistently high temperatures until Saturday.

Hot to very hot conditions are also expected in eastern KwaZulu-Natal, potentially causing significant discomfort.
Extremely high fire danger conditions are forecast in parts of the Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Free State and Northern Cape, raising concerns about the risk of veld fires.
Gauteng, Mpumalanga, North West and parts of the Free State could also experience isolated showers and afternoon thunderstorms, while much of the Western Cape is expected to remain largely dry.
Residents in affected areas are urged to monitor weather updates and take precautions against extreme heat, thunderstorms and possible flooding. Motorists should avoid crossing flooded roads and bridges, while those in areas facing high fire danger should avoid activities that could spark veld fires.
