Cape Town – Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya is no longer an employee of the South African Police Service (SAPS) after tendering his resignation during a disciplinary hearing on Monday, 12 October 2026.
In a statement published on its official X account, the SAPS confirmed that Sibiya’s resignation took effect immediately after disciplinary proceedings against him commenced.
“The disciplinary hearing against Lieutenant General Sibiya sat this morning, during which his legal representative tendered his resignation immediately after the disciplinary proceedings had commenced,” the statement reads.
The police service said Sibiya’s departure would be treated as a dishonourable discharge because he had an ongoing disciplinary case at the time of his resignation.
“As the former senior officer had an ongoing disciplinary case against him at the time of his resignation, his departure from the Service is therefore regarded as a dishonourable discharge,” the SAPS said.

The service further confirmed that Sibiya’s employment had been terminated with immediate effect.
“The SAPS confirms that Lieutenant General Sibiya’s employment with the Service has been terminated with immediate effect,” the statement added.
Sibiya was facing seven disciplinary charges arising from allegations raised at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is investigating alleged criminal infiltration and interference within the criminal justice system.
The allegations include his reported interactions with controversial businessman Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala, the handling of confidential police information and alleged interference in police investigations.
The allegations against Sibiya have drawn attention to concerns about possible links between law enforcement officials and individuals suspected of involvement in criminal activities. The allegations remain subject to the relevant legal and disciplinary processes.
Meanwhile, Sibiya remains in custody facing charges relating to the alleged rape and sexual grooming of a teenager. He was expected to appear before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, October 13.
His resignation ends his employment with SAPS but comes amid continuing legal proceedings over the separate criminal allegations against him.
