Durban – A woman was injured after five armed suspects opened fire during an attempted hijacking in Terrance Park, KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday morning.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said its members were dispatched to the scene at about 08:53 after its Operations Centre received “multiple calls for assistance”.
According to RUSA, the suspects, who were armed with handguns, attempted to hijack a motorist driving a red Mazda CX-5.
“The suspects opened fire before they were disturbed by the motorist’s relative,” RUSA said.
One of the bullets penetrated a second vehicle and a fragment struck a woman in the palm of her left hand as she came out of her home to investigate the commotion.
RUSA said the suspects fled the scene in a grey Audi A3 and their direction of travel was unknown.
Paramedics attended to the injured woman at the scene and provided medical treatment.
No arrests have been reported.
Police investigations into the attempted hijacking are expected to continue.
