Durban – A 34-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted and robbed after a suspect forced her into dense vegetation in Brindhavan, KwaZulu-Natal, while she was walking home from work.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the woman arrived at its headquarters on Friday seeking assistance to recover valuables she believed she had lost at the scene.
“The Domestic Employee explained that she was walking home from work at approximately 17:30 on Monday (07/09/2026) when a suspect produced a knife and forced her into dense vegetation in Brindhavan, KwaZulu-Natal,” RUSA said in a statement.
The suspect allegedly assaulted and sexually assaulted the woman before stealing R350 in cash, her identity book and a Capitec ATM card.
“He allegedly assaulted and sexually assaulted her before robbing her of R350 in cash, her identity book and a Capitec ATM card,” the statement said.
RUSA said the woman sustained a black eye but did not seek medical attention or open a criminal case after the incident because she was “severely traumatised”.
Reaction officers accompanied the woman to the scene and searched the area for her belongings.
“Her identity book and Capitec ATM card were successfully recovered,” RUSA said.
The suspect had not been identified or arrested at the time of the statement. It was also not immediately clear whether the victim had subsequently opened a criminal case with police.
