Canelands, KwaZulu-Natal – A woman escaped an attempted hijacking at her home in Canelands, KwaZulu-Natal, after ramming through her driveway gate and driving into her yard while screaming for help.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), officers were called to the scene at about 17:30 on Wednesday after the woman encountered the suspects as she entered her driveway.
RUSA said the woman noticed the men approaching and that they “attempted to overpower her and break the vehicle’s window.”
Fearing for her safety, she rammed the driveway gate and drove into the property while repeatedly sounding her horn and screaming for assistance.
Her family then came out of the residence and contacted RUSA’s Operations Centre.
The suspects were described as wearing black clothing and black beanies. They fled on foot through dense vegetation near the property after the woman managed to get away.
“Reaction Officers searched the area extensively. The suspects were not located,” RUSA said.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The attempted hijacking comes amid continued concerns over attacks targeting motorists and residents at their homes, particularly during vulnerable moments such as entering or leaving properties.
