Cupertino, California – Apple has unveiled a major expansion of its health and fitness features, combining new Apple Watch sensors with Apple Intelligence to provide users with more detailed insights into their health and daily readiness.
The new Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 feature an updated Health Sensing System that Apple says delivers its “most accurate heart rate sensing in a wearable”. The devices measure heart rate every five seconds and track heart rate variability (HRV) as frequently as every five minutes.
A new Readiness feature uses activity, sleep and vital-sign data to give users a daily score from 0 to 10, accompanied by recommendations such as “Recover”, “Pace Yourself”, “Ready” or “Go For It”.
Apple’s vice president of Health and Fitness, Sumbul Desai, said the company was focused on turning complex health information into practical guidance.
Cycle Tracking
“At Apple, we believe technology can empower everyone with actionable, science-based insights built with privacy at the core,” Desai said.
The redesigned Health app will use Apple Intelligence to provide personalised insights through new Insights and Longevity tabs, including a new Health Age feature that compares health metrics with a user’s chronological age.
Apple is also expanding Cycle Tracking with support for perimenopause and menopause, including notifications when changes in logged cycles may suggest perimenopause.
The redesigned Health app is expected to launch later this year, initially in US English, while watchOS 27 will be available from September 14 for supported Apple Watch models.
