Johannesburg – A 53-year-old scholar transport driver was shot and killed in Westbury, Johannesburg, shortly after dropping off school pupils on Monday morning.
Gauteng police said the shooting happened at about 8.10am after the driver had dropped off the children and was preparing to park his vehicle at a flat.
Two unknown men allegedly approached him and opened fire, hitting him multiple times.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed the victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds.
“Upon arrival, police found a 53-year-old scholar transport driver with multiple gunshot wounds,” Sibeko said.
Paramedics declared the man dead at the scene.
The suspects allegedly fled in a blue Volkswagen Polo following the shooting.
Sibeko said the motive for the killing had not yet been established.
“Motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage,” she said.
Sophiatown police have opened a murder case and launched a manhunt for the two suspects.
No arrests have been made, and investigations are continuing.
Police have appealed to anyone with information that could help identify or locate the suspects to come forward.
