Cape Town – Former Bafana Bafana defender Matthew Booth and his partner, Bongani Mthombeni, are expecting their first child together.
The couple shared the news on Instagram, posting a picture of three pairs of trainers: two adult-sized pairs alongside a much smaller pair.
“Tiny kicks are officially on the way,” they captioned the post.
Mthombeni also shared images showing her growing baby bump, giving followers another glimpse of the pregnancy.
The arrival will make the couple a family of seven, with Booth and Mthombeni each having two sons from previous relationships.
The pregnancy announcement marks another chapter in a relationship that has previously attracted significant public attention.

Booth was previously married to former model Sonia Booth, while Mthombeni was married to University of Cape Town professor Klaus Möller.
Their relationship became a subject of public scrutiny in 2022 after Sonia publicly accused her then-husband of having an affair with Mthombeni. The allegations were widely discussed on social media, with the controversy becoming known as the “cheesecake scandal”.
Sonia detailed her suspicions in a series of social media posts, including claims that she had used a private investigator and a vehicle tracking device while investigating her husband’s alleged infidelity.
The cheesecake became one of the most talked-about details of the controversy after Sonia alleged that Booth had baked one for his alleged lover.

Booth and Mthombeni initially denied the affair allegations, but later made their relationship public.
Booth’s divorce from Sonia was finalised by the Johannesburg High Court in 2024, while Mthombeni’s divorce from Möller was also finalised in 2023.
Since then, Booth and Mthombeni have continued to share glimpses of their life together, including moments with their children and family holidays.
Their latest announcement now adds a new chapter to their blended family, with the couple preparing to welcome their first child together.
