Durban – A R50 000 reward has been announced for information that could help locate former helicopter pilot Slade Thomas, who has been missing from his Durban home.
Thomas, who reportedly lives with Alzheimer’s disease, disappeared while out walking in the Umgeni Park area. His disappearance has been reported to police at Greenwood Park, as his family continues efforts to find him safely.
The family has enlisted private investigator Brad Nathanson to assist with the search.
Nathanson has warned people against sharing fake or AI-generated images of Thomas in an attempt to claim the reward.
“A photograph generated or manipulated by AI proves absolutely nothing about where a missing person is, whether he is alive, or whether somebody has actually seen him,” Nathanson said.
He added: “Slade is still missing! Let’s keep our eyes open, our heads clear and, above all, let’s not make an already devastated family’s nightmare any worse.”
Thomas, a former South African Air Force helicopter pilot, was involved in the 1991 rescue of passengers from the MTS Oceanos cruise ship and received the Air Force Cross for his role in the operation, The South African reported.
