Pretoria – A 40-year-old supplier linked to a R16 million fleet tender awarded by the Emfuleni Local Municipality has been arrested on charges of corruption, fraud and theft.
The suspect was arrested at a mall in Pretoria on Thursday by the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), following an investigation into the municipal tender.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the supplier was contracted to provide 18 vehicles, including municipal trucks, but only seven were delivered to the municipality.
“The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has arrested a 40-year-old supplier linked to a R16 million fleet tender awarded by the Emfuleni Local Municipality,” SAPS said.
The police said the investigation centres on the procurement process and the failure to deliver the full number of vehicles covered by the contract.
“The supplier was contracted to deliver 18 vehicles, including municipal trucks, but only seven vehicles were delivered to the municipality,” the statement said.
The arrest follows the earlier apprehension of the municipality’s former fleet manager, who is out on bail in connection with the same investigation.
The latest suspect is expected to appear before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 7 September 2026.
SAPS said the investigation remains ongoing.
