Cape Town – DJ Cleo has announced his departure from Radio 2000 after 28 months at the SABC station, saying he wants to focus on his music career, family, studies and mental wellbeing.
The Tembisa-born DJ and broadcaster announced his resignation in a statement, stressing that his decision was driven by personal priorities rather than plans to join another radio station.
“I am choosing to refocus my energy on my music career, my family, my academic journey and most importantly, my peace and mental health,” he said.
DJ Cleo said his time at Radio 2000 had been rewarding and that he was proud of what he accomplished during his tenure.

Among the highlights was hosting The Eskhaleni Party with DJ Cleo, a programme he named himself. The show was nominated for a Telkom Radio Award during its first year on air.
“I am eternally grateful to Mr Tony Soglo and management for identifying me as the ideal candidate to host this show,” he said.
The broadcaster said he now wants to dedicate more time to completing his degree, performing at live events and developing emerging artists.
His plans include working with his protégés, uMainfrend Womzulu and Pulinshki, alongside other up-and-coming talent.
DJ Cleo also addressed speculation about his next move, making it clear that his departure from Radio 2000 is not linked to a competing station.

He said he would take his time before deciding whether to return to broadcasting.
The DJ’s decision to prioritise his mental health also comes amid growing conversations around men’s mental wellbeing in the entertainment industry.
For DJ Cleo, stepping away from radio appears to be part of creating more space for his personal life while pursuing his other interests.
Reflecting on his time at Radio 2000, he said he had no intention of allowing his departure to overshadow the experience.
“I had an amazing 28 months on the job and will not taint it by saying anything else beyond this point or on any platform,” he said.
DJ Cleo thanked the station’s management, colleagues, listeners and critics for being part of his journey and reaffirmed his respect for the SABC and Radio 2000.
For now, the broadcaster is turning his attention to music, education, family and his wellbeing.
He signed off with a phrase familiar to his listeners: “Sizohlangana eskhaleni.”
