Cape Town – Police have seized drugs worth an estimated R2 million and arrested a 37-year-old man during an intelligence-driven operation in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the bust was carried out by its Anti-Economic Crime Task Team in collaboration with the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Policing Team at Thaleni Square on Wednesday morning.
According to SAPS, members received intelligence at about 5.30am on 26 August 2026 about suspected drug-related activities at the address.
“Without further ado, they followed up on the information, resulting in the discovery of nine packets of Mandrax tablets, each containing 1 000 tablets, as well as 300 loose Mandrax tablets,” the police said in a statement.
Further searches at the premises uncovered 12 sachets of crystal methamphetamine and 4.15 grams of rock cocaine.
The suspect was arrested and is facing charges of possession and dealing in drugs.
“He will make his first court appearance at the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged,” SAPS said.
The police operation forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking and remove illicit substances from communities.
SAPS said the operation was based on intelligence gathered by its crime-fighting teams and resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of drugs.
The arrest comes as police continue to target drug dealing and other serious crimes in the Western Cape.
