Durban – A 22-year-old job seeker was robbed of his jeans and shoes at gunpoint while walking towards the Verulam CBD in KwaZulu-Natal, according to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA).
RUSA said the man was walking from Oaklands towards Verulam in search of employment when he was approached by two men near the entrance to Oaklands Drive.
“One (1) suspect produced a handgun and demanded his belongings,” RUSA said in a statement.
The victim reportedly told the robbers that he had no valuables to give them. The second suspect then allegedly took his blue jeans and Adidas takkies.
“After the victim explained that he had no valuables, the unarmed suspect robbed him of his blue jeans and Adidas takkies,” the emergency response organisation said.
The two suspects then fled along a footpath leading into dense vegetation across the road.
The victim subsequently went to RUSA’s headquarters in Ethekweni and requested assistance. A Reaction Officer accompanied him back to the scene and searched the surrounding area, but the suspects were not found.
“No arrests were made,” RUSA said.
According to RUSA, the suspect who allegedly carried the firearm was wearing a black jacket and black pants, while his accomplice was dressed in a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
The incident left the young man without some of the clothing he had been wearing while travelling in search of work.
Police involvement and further details surrounding the robbery were not provided in the statement.
