Cape Town – South African rapper Emtee has been taken back into custody after his bail was revoked following an alleged breach of his bail conditions involving his estranged wife, Nicole Chinsamy.
The rapper, whose real name is Mthembeni Ndevu, appeared before the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 August.
Emtee is accused of breaching a protection order obtained by Chinsamy in 2023. The order prohibits him from verbally abusing or harassing her, including through social media.
According to TimesLIVE, Emtee’s bail conditions included a prohibition on posting on social media, either directly or indirectly, whether the posts were positive or negative. He was also prohibited from communicating with Chinsamy.
His bail was subsequently revoked after he allegedly sent WhatsApp messages to his estranged wife, reportedly in breach of the conditions imposed by the court.
The latest development comes shortly after Emtee publicly apologised to Chinsamy, their children and his fans in a statement posted on Instagram.

In the statement, the rapper expressed regret over the pain and emotional strain caused by their relationship and acknowledged that he could have handled some situations with greater understanding and maturity.
“I am sincerely sorry for the pain, disappointment and emotional strain that our journey has caused you. While no relationship is without its challenges, I acknowledge that there are moments where I could have shown greater understanding, compassion and maturity. For that, I offer my heartfelt apology,” he wrote.
However, the alleged WhatsApp communication has now become central to the latest court proceedings, with the court considering whether Emtee breached the conditions attached to his bail.
The rapper remains in custody following the revocation of his bail.
The allegations have not been determined by a court, and Emtee is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
