Morebeng – Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for four unidentified suspects who allegedly posed as police officers during a violent house robbery at a farm in the Morebeng policing area.
The attack took place at about 1pm on Thursday, 13 August 2026, in the Capricorn District.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the suspects were dressed in police uniforms and reflective jackets, with their faces covered, when they approached a farm employee and asked for the whereabouts of his employer.
The employee reportedly became suspicious and attempted to flee but was allegedly threatened with a firearm and tied up.
Police said the suspects remained on the property for about three hours before the farm owner arrived with two employees.
The suspects allegedly confronted the three at gunpoint and demanded access to a safe.
When the farm owner initially told them that he did not have a safe, police said he was assaulted.
“The suspects allegedly assaulted him with a pick and sjambok and later cut his fingers with a side cutter in an attempt to force him to reveal the location of the safe key,” SAPS said.
The suspects allegedly attempted to break open the safe but were unsuccessful before eventually gaining access to it.
Police said the suspects stole about five rifles, a pistol, ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash.
They also allegedly took a bank card and four cellular phones.
The victims were tied up before the suspects demanded the keys to a vehicle. One shot was allegedly fired during the robbery.
The suspects then fled in a white Toyota Hilux Double Cab, registration BHY 893 L, a 1999 model, which was reported stolen during the robbery.
No arrests have been made.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that could help identify the suspects or recover the stolen vehicle and firearms to contact investigating officer Sergeant Moraka Machaka on 072 276 5728 or report the information to the nearest police station.
The investigation is continuing.
