Cape Town – An 11-year-old girl from the Masincedane Informal Settlement in Strandfontein, Cape Town, was allegedly being sold for sex for R100, prompting outrage and swift action from the community and police.
The case came to light after a resident posted a video appealing for help for the child, reports said.
The resident alleged that the girl’s parents were involved in selling her for sex and claimed the father had said she should contribute to the household because he had no money.
A resident who visited the informal settlement told IOL that people alleged the father had said: “It’s fine, laat sy haar toet verkoop” (“let her sell herself”).
Strandfontein Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Sandy Schuter said she immediately pushed for action after learning of the allegations.
“I refused to let go until everyone involved was arrested before sunset,” Schuter said.

She added: “Justice for our children is non-negotiable, and swift action is the only acceptable standard.”
Police confirmed that the matter involves the alleged rape and sexual exploitation of an 11-year-old girl.
Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said: “The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.”
Two suspects, aged 20 and 47, appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, and were remanded in custody for a formal bail application. They are expected to apply for bail on Monday, 17 August.
