Cape Town – A consignment of dagga worth an estimated R310,000 has been seized from a passenger bus in Prince Albert, Western Cape, with a 50-year-old woman arrested in connection with the drugs.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the seizure was made on Saturday, 8 August 2026, during a vehicle checkpoint conducted by Central Karoo Flying Squad members along the Prince Albert Road.
The officers stopped a passenger bus at about 6.55am and conducted a search, leading to the discovery of a suitcase containing dagga.
“Police confiscated 38,70 kilograms of dagga which was positively linked to a woman,” SAPS said.
The woman was subsequently arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs and is expected to appear in the Prince Albert Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 11 August.
In a separate operation in the Garden Route District, De Rust police seized more than 660 litres of liquor from an unlicensed liquor outlet.
Later on Saturday, at about 9.10pm, Dysselsdorp police conducted a sting operation in Dahlia Street, Dysselsdorp, outside Oudtshoorn.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 62 crates of beer and 20 containers filled with liquor.
A 57-year-old woman was arrested on a charge of selling liquor without a licence and is expected to appear in court once she has been formally charged.
SAPS said the deployment of Flying Squad members along entry and exit routes into the region would continue as part of efforts to prevent illicit goods from entering the province.
“The strategic deployment of Flying Squad members along entry and exit routes to the region will be maintained to curb the influx of illicit goods into the province,” SAPS said.
The district commissioners commended police members for their vigilance in tackling drug- and alcohol-related offences in the Central Karoo and Garden Route districts.
