Limpopo – Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers joined police officers in a foot chase that led to the arrest of an undocumented foreign national during an unannounced visit to a police station in Modimolle.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the incident occurred while Scheepers and his management team were travelling through Modimolle as part of ongoing unannounced police station inspections.
Police said the provincial commissioner spotted an officer chasing a fleeing suspect and immediately intervened.
“Without hesitation, Lieutenant General Scheepers immediately stopped, got out of his vehicle and joined the pursuit, assisting in the successful apprehension of the suspect,” SAPS said in a statement.
The suspect was later identified as an undocumented foreign national.
SAPS said the incident demonstrated Scheepers’ leadership approach and commitment to supporting officers on the ground.
“The incident reflects the Provincial Commissioner’s hands-on leadership style and unwavering commitment to supporting members on the ground while ensuring that the law is upheld,” the statement said.
Police added that under Scheepers’ leadership, “SAPS Limpopo remains resolute in protecting communities and enforcing the law without fear or favour.”
The arrest comes as police continue operations across Limpopo aimed at tackling crime and addressing illegal immigration in the province.
