Cape Town – The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced the appointment of Lieutenant General Sizakhele William Dyantyi as the new Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape.
The appointment was announced by the Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, with SAPS confirming that Dyantyi officially assumes office with more than three decades of policing experience.
In a statement, SAPS described the new provincial commissioner as a seasoned law enforcement leader with a strong academic background.
SAPS said Dyantyi takes up the position with “an exceptional combination of academic excellence and more than three decades of distinguished policing experience.”
The police service formally introduced him as the province’s new top cop, saying his appointment comes as SAPS continues to strengthen policing leadership in the Western Cape.
“Lieutenant General Dyantyi assumes office with an exceptional combination of academic excellence and more than three decades of distinguished policing experience,” SAPS said.
No further details regarding his immediate priorities or the effective date of his appointment were provided.
The appointment comes as the Western Cape continues to grapple with violent crime, gang-related violence and other policing challenges, with expectations that the new provincial commissioner will lead efforts to enhance crime prevention and public safety across the province.
