Cape Town – Seven people have reportedly died in a devastating crash involving two minibus taxis and a truck on the N4 toll road between Ngodwana and Mbombela.
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison confirmed that the collision occurred at around 4am on Thursday.
Department spokesperson Moeti Mmusi said the truck was travelling from Johannesburg towards Mbombela, while one of the minibuses was travelling from the direction of Mbombela when the crash occurred.
“Early this morning around 4 a.m., one truck was involved with two minibuses. One of the minibuses was travelling from the direction of Mbombela, while the truck was travelling from Johannesburg towards also Mbombela.”
Mmusi said four people were confirmed dead at the scene.
“Four people lost their lives. Three of the deceased were occupants of one of the minibus taxis that caught fire, while the fourth person’s body was found on the road. It is not clear from which vehicle the person came, but it is suspected that they may have been flung from one of the involved minibus taxis during the crash.”
The department has confirmed that a total of seven people have reportedly died in the collision. Further details surrounding the cause of the crash have not yet been released.
